Order on Medical Records
« on: October 29, 2012, 02:09:02 PM »
Judge Nelson released her order concerning the discovery of George Zimmerman's medical records. The state argued that all records should be disclosed. Zimmerman argued that only those records related to the events of Feb 26 should be given to the state, citing the protected nature of unrelated treatment. The order hasn't been released, but the Orlando Sentinel has the story.

Quote
"Any injuries received that night would clearly be relevant to a self-defense claim, as would any similar injuries present before that night or continuing symptoms after that night," she wrote. "Observations of the defendant's physical appearance surrounding the date of the shooting may also be relevant. However, other medical records relating to the treatment of [unrelated] maladies should not be disclosed."

I think her order re: medical records was attached to the papers she gave to each party, at the Friday, Oct 26 hearing.  It hasn't appeared at the 18th Circuit website yet.  It sounds as though she gave the prosecution even less than what the defense offered to disclose (everything, 30 days both sides of February 26th).

What exactly did they expect to uncover in his medical history excluding the injuries from the altercation?

IMO, he wasn't on any medications that suggested any sort of instability or irrational behavior. He wasn't seeing a psych doctor at the time. None of it seemed to really amount to anything usable for the prosecution here.
