Trevor Dooley convicted of manslaughter
« on: November 24, 2012, 09:19:05 AM »
I hope I'm not doing this incorrectly. This week, Trevor Dooley was convicted of manslaughter in the 2010 shooting of David James in Valrico in Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa. Although not part of the trial, race may be brought up in the sentencing portion. This was a SYG case.

Dooley, now 71, is black and James, then 41, was white. Dooley says he wouldn't have been convicted if the races were reversed. Unlike the TM case, this happened in broad daylight, and there were a couple of witnesses, including James' young daughter.

Was this the "Stand your ground after grabbing your gun and going across the street to a public park to harass a skateboarder" case?

Judge Moody didn't think so.

This case will be great comfort to those who feel that carrying a gun in a concealed holster is morally equivalent to displaying the gun for the purpose of threatening.

Please keep these threads to the Zimmerman case. I'm locking this one.
