B-76 ran out of room to write.

She saw in the news a gun was involved, she thinks GZ's. She knows he was injured, thinks he was a community security guard. There was 'interaction', struggle, gun went off, boy died and GZ injured.

She heard about defense fund. She remembers one of his lawyers talking in court about the account.

B-76  Female.  Sounds not-black.  Juror ran out of room on the form, answering some question or questions.  She's aware there was a gun involved in the news, and it was Zimmerman's gun, she knows Zimmerman was injured, Zimmerman was a security guard for the community, had some interaction with the young man, there was a struggle, the gun went off, the young man died, Zimmerman was injured through the struggle.  She's aware of community funds raised for Zimmerman's defense, and some issues swirling around that.

B-76 hasn't formed an opinion. She got all her information from local TV news.

B-76 has seen O'Mara on TV other times, doesn't remember anything he said.

She doesn't believe everything she hears, on TV or from lawyers.

She won't hold it against the state that they didn't go on news to respond to defense points.

She and her family members all think everyone deserves a fair trial, when stuff was on news they would say wait for the trial.

Someone, she thinks her daughter, wondered why a kid would be out at night getting candy.

But none of them really formed any opinions.

This prospect strikes me as sharper than the average bear.  She hears the question, she answers the question, she's asked Bernardo to clarify, etc.

Bernardo tries to paint O'Mara as having made untrue remarks to the press.  Would you hold it against the state that we didn't talk to the media in rebuttal to O'Mara?  I sense that Bernardo does not like this prospect.

She's talked to her family about the case, or they have talked to her.  She describes the family as open minded, everyone deserves a fair trial, hear stuff on the news, and the reaction is "well, wait for the trial."  Bernardo fishing for any expression of conclusion opinion - but some questions, "why was the kid out getting candy at that time of night?"  That was her daughter.  The prospect doesn't recall details of the conversation, it was a year ago.

Did the jury summons prompt discussion?  No.  We were all preoccupied with moving.  No discussions.

She thinks her husband may have researched, but he wouldn't share it with her if he did.

B-76's husband researches everything. He probably researched the case and has opinions, hasn't shared either with her.

She doesn't remember hearing opinions about the case from anyone else.

She will rely on evidence at trial.

Took another break. West questioning now.

B-76 recalls the case was in the news before GZ was arrested. She has seen Trayvon's family (parents), doesn't recall their lawyer.

B-76 knows about Zimmerman's injuries and a fight. Saw protests, wasn't influenced.

Her husband may have overheard her talk to her children about the case. They haven't talked directly to each other about it.

She recalls Zimmerman's wife in the news, has something to do with the funds.

West to work with this witness for the defense.  Prospect has been in Seminole County since 1981.  "Just as a child then" says West, she agrees.  Do you read the Orlando Sentinel?  Get it for coupons.  Gets news from Yahoo!, not from OS website.  Headline news is obtained from teevee, usually a local news station.  Does not have cable.  Old school!

Watched some of the hearings.  Must have been early on, sounds like she watched the bond hearing or thereabouts.  The news had caught her attention before the hearing.  She was aware when he was arrested (would have been Aprilish), she was aware of the issue before he was arrested.  She has heard Martin's family on teevee, Tracy Martin, Sybrina, but does not recall hearing anything from an attorney from the families.  Do you recognize anybody here from seeing them on teevee?  Ends up, as she looks around, no.

Main thing she remembers, when it first happened, the media talked about the altercation, young man was shot, Zimmerman was injured.  What was her reaction when she saw photos of Zimmerman's injuries?  It's possible they got in a fight before the gun went off.  She is aware of protests related to the case.  Did that have any impact on how you view the case?  No.  Ever consider signing a petition or donate money?  No.  Trick question by West, do you recall ever sharing your opinion with your husband?  She answered "no," but she earlier said she didn't have an opinion.

After consulting with jury consultant, have your children discussed this with you?  Formed an opinion?  Yes as to discussion, no as to opinion.  We listen, but don't believe what we hear on teevee.  You have to hear everything before you can reach a conclusion, and that is pretty much how the kids discuss the case.

Sidebar.  I like this prospect, FWIW.  Edit to add - she would have a good chance of being foreman.  Seems intelligent, articulate, fair, even tempered, patient.

West talked to jury consultant. Back to B-76.

Her children haven't formed opinions about guilt or innocence, pieces of evidence. She and her children listen to TV, don't believe what they hear.

They agree you have to hear everything from both sides.

She is confident her decision will be based on evidence in the court, although she has heard much in the news.

West thanks her. Sidebar.

Jury consultant and Zimmerman having a discussion.  Looks like friendly banter.

I'm thinking Nelson is ready to bail out for the day, and I don't expect another prospect will be called for examination.  I think quite a bit of weeding out has already occurred.  All four examined were more or less "with it" in listening and answering, all had a good enough command of English.

Something I forgot to mention. Nelson said something about this phase of the voir dire being for the purpose of examining exposure to publicity, and limited to that.
