E-81 says she has no concerns about her ability to be impartial.

O'Mara asks if her beliefs about the right to lawfully carry weapons would bias her in the case.

No.

E-81 says someone who carries a gun unlawfully is a criminal.

O'Mara says 'reasonable doubt' will not be defined now, but will be in judges instructions to jury.

Does E-81 agree she won't hold prosecution to a higher standard than what is explained by the judge?

Yes.

O'Mara spoke briefly with consultant. Back to E-81.

E-81 says nothing in her life will keep her from serving for the next few weeks. She wishes their was.

O'Mara talking about sequestration.

O'Mara asks if E-81 is asked to serve sequestered, can she do it, while O'Mara understands she would rather not.

Yes, she can.

I left out that when I said Bernie wanted E-81 to say she would hold the prosecution to a standard greater than beyond reasonable doubt, he said something about having to work magic to convince her. She said that 'magic' was Bernie's word and not hers. Since then both she and O'Mara have repeated a few times that 'magic' was Bernie's word and not hers.

I'm not surprised E-81's voir dire is occasion for a long sidebar.

Recess, 11:50 AM to 1:00 PM.

I'm gone.

ETA: I see I duplicated a post in blockquote. No reason for that. Just a mistake I don't know how I made.

I see now. What I did was to quote a post when I meant to edit it.

Great work, NM-NM, thank you. I'm at work today so I won't be able to watch or live-update. If anyone else wants to, even for a short while, feel free.

I see now I did mention that, just a little earlier than I thought.

Unknown candidate. Started listening during BDLR's examination. Calls incident accident, says she used that word because of uncertainty.

Under questioning from the state, this prospect says she would fear for her and her family's safety if the trial were to render a not-guilty verdict.  She does not have that concern if there is a guilty verdict.  She hangs part of this as pastor's being invited into the courtroom - "representation to certain individuals to try to keep the peace."  This wouldn't sway her opinion, just would confirm her hope that the trial doesn't end being more than it should be.  Protests are all pro-Martin.  Would you hold that against the prosecution?  No.  Protests have nothing to do with guilt or innocence (her statement).

As far as internet awareness, she knows there is a defense fund, and that's it.  She is part of the group that was brought in on Monday.  Hardship questions.  She and husband both work (she definitely doesn't want to be known), and leave the house at different times of the morning.  Being sequestered would affect her from job and child care perspectives.  She says being a juror would be a hardship.  No other family to take care of kids.  If selected, she and hubby would do what they have to do to get things covered, she always figures out a way.

She remembers Martin didn't live here.  Zimmerman wasn't arrested initially.  She doesn't think there is anything significant about those two facts.  She could easily dismiss what she remembers about media presentations.  Has not watched any court proceedings.  Back to racial overtones, do you feel one side or the other was more responsible for that?  Yes, Trayvon.  Does this have an effect on you?  No.  She thinks this case is a terrible accident that should not have occurred.  Bernardo asks what she means by "accident," she's just using it because she doesn't know what happened.

Sidebar before defense asks questions.

Juror K-80 is her number. Nelson announces she will in fact sequester jury. Weird timing for a ruling from the bench.

Nelson has decided to sequester the jury for a trial that will take from 2 to 4 weeks.

West up to question the prospective juror.  I think jurors mistakenly believe they can retain anonymity.
