Bernie is losing the calm funeral director voice, raising the volume and beginning the flapping arm routine.

CS: He doesn't recall if he asked Tracy if it was TM, or just if he recognized the voice. CS heard the word 'no' and saw movement of Tracy's mouth.

Bernie elicited that people often say 'no' on news of someone's death.

O'Mara on redirect, establishing that the voice ID was under discussion.

Q: What other info supported GZ as screamer?

Objection overruled.

CS: Tim Smith, John Good.

Bernardo is basically trying to make Tracy's answer one made without thought, made in the midst of an emotional realization or living of the incident.

Bernardo says even though you knew Tracy was emotional you decided to ask, Is that your some voice in the background?

Tracy's face was looking away from Serino and away from the computer.  Bernardo says the vocalization was under his breath, you didn't flat out hear the "no" word unequivocally?  I heard it, and saw the movement of his mouth.  Do you know if that was a reaction to the audio tape, or to voice ID?  Objection, calls for speculation.  Sustained.

This had to have been the first time Tracy heard the recording.  It was prior to the recording being released to the public.

Bernardo asks if it is normal, when a person is told a loved one is dead, they respond with the word "no."

Redirect.  Only after the Lauer call did you asks about voice ID?  Yes.  What was the purpose of asking Tracy?  It was important to the investigation.  Objections to leading questions.  Tracy's remark became important, but there hadn't been any indication it was anybody but Zimmerman.  Serino had heard from Tim Smith, John Good, and knew that when he presented the recording to Tracy.  Serino wanted to confirm or cement that.  What did you take Tracy's response as an indication of?  That the voice was not that of Trayvon.  Did he ever ask to listen again?  Ever indicate he may have a doubt or change of mind?  No. No.

Did Brandy say anything that indicated disagreement with Tracy?

CS: In following days, Tracy did not contact CS to ask to hear call again, or say he had changed his mind. Brandy did not volunteer an opinion on voice ID. CS has no doubt Tracy understood his question, answered 'no'.

Bernie on re-cross.

Tracy Martin should stop chewing gum.  I know it is a petty thing, but it looks bad and often it is the little things that people judge you by.

O'Mara on reredirect.

CS: Many people don't recognize their own voice on recordings. CS did not take GZ's comment as denial.

2:22 PM CS excused, subject to recall at Bernie's request.

If George said he didn't recognize the voice as his own.

Right AB..... of course, no one recognized their own voice on tape.  Maybe the jury realizes that already.  When I hear my singing voice I am pleased..but my speaking voice and "ye gads"  it's horrible.  I sound like a duck with a head cold.

Sorry, I gave up on trying to briefly characterize it. It's around 16:50 on 2/29-3 (Audio).

Quote
Serino: You hear that voice in the background?
Zimmerman: No, sir.
[911 call. Talk continues over recording.]
Serino: That's you.
[Call continues]
Serino: Are you hearing yourself?
Zimmerman: It doesn't even sound like me.
Serino: It's you.

But there was another officer who wandered by and stopped to listen. I wouldn't dare try and spell the name.

Sgt. Leon Ciesla, 19-20/184. His report says he was there, didn't hear what was said.
