Where Are They Now? John Burness
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:22:50 PM »

Aside from being into much deeper hot water since yesterday 's scathing appelate court decision iin favor of Coach Larry Pressler,Burness  is also  instructing the young of Duke Unversity.
He is not teaching ettiquette, libel law, legal defense or economics. And if he gets some drunken Lacrosse player signing uo,he might just receive a free course in butt kicking.

   Quasimodo found:
Duke official honored for service to community

By Dawn Baumgartner Vaughan : The Herald-Sun
Jan 16, 2008

DURHAM -- Durham Congregations In Action honored John Burness at its annual dinner meeting Tuesday night at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burness, senior vice president and spokesman for Duke University, is retiring in June.

The Rev. Joe Harvard, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, said when Burness came to Duke in January 1991, he was more than hired -- he was called. Harvard is on the board of DCIA, a community organization of nearly 70 congregations in Durham that join together to work for peace and justice.

(snip)

The Rev. Mel Williams, pastor of Watts Street Baptist Church, said that Burness simply makes dreams come true.

SC: Burness has likewise made some nightmares come true.Touching, wasn't it?

     Chicago Tribune:

Experts: U. of Ill. image suffers little damage

September 24, 2009

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Experts say the University of Illinois certainly has a black eye after being dragged through a high-profile admissions scandal, but its reputation and the fast public reaction from state officials could ward off long-term damage.

(snip)

Others agree that the university still has repair work ahead of it.

"I would spend my time trying to promote the hell out of the academics and the things that make the university great," said John F. Burness, a former spokesman for the Urbana-Champaign campus and more recently for Duke University.

Burness teaches a course on higher education and the media at Duke and has discussed the University of Illinois scandal with his students.

"You've been in a tough situation. Basically you've dug your way out of it," he said, adding that the university must now start reminding the state and the country of the work that happens on campus.

(snip)
SC:
Everytime Burness opens his mouth he makes his -and Duke's-conduct appear even worse ,if possible, than previously. It's like bringing  in Crystal Mangum  as an authority on trauma rape .
