I wouldn't take those settlement checks to the bank just yet.
The first good advice I've ever seen you give Precious.

This is all very entertaining. From what I hear, the students on campus are enjoying the fall weather and going about their business. They aren't nearly as steamed up about what the ims and peebs of the world think as they are about what paper is due Tuesday morning. They know what we know and they know it's a hoax; those students who hope to shine a light on what they perceive as past slights are entitled to their opinions but they have to show up and make the grades just like everybody else or they are out of there. Duke students are nothing if not practical, intelligent young people, not perfect but more than capable of withstanding this ordeal. All the windiness here is just that, signifying nothing. So cluck all you want, they'll end up determining the future, not the haters on this board. Good for them to refuse Nutfong's phony handshake. I'm sure he understands from his college days of protesting the Vietnam War. It's a free country and we have a first amendment and he has launched the careers of many new defense lawyers. And if anyone needs to be reminded of Nutfong's rudeness, cast your memories back to his inane, simpering, smiling posturing in court in front of the judge. And if you don't know, now you know suckers...

OMG. I hope I did not start a movement. LOL.
Elizabeth, please. I think the discussion was only about urinating. Now, you are just taking it too far! P.S. I hope I get this right and I am not in the middle of quotes again! [/quote] LOL hp...I was thinking the same thing (about the "movement"!)...

Quote from: PB on Today at 05:16:27 PM Are "guidelines" mandatory? I don't actually understand that concept. I understand the concept of "laws" being mandatory, but guidelines, where I come from, are simply recommended procedures.
The idea that suspects have a "right" to fillers seems not to have been established yet. Perhaps this judge will make a landmark decision on the matter, but I doubt it.
-----
The idea that police departments and law enforcement officials have to follow their own regulations or the evidence that they gather is excluded was actually established in 1961, in Mapp v. Ohio. I know NC is slow on justice, but I suspect it hasn't taken 45 years for the law to come to the state. The regulations in Durham called for five fillers (General Order 4077). These weren't guidelines that police could follow whenever they felt like it. They were official departmental regulations.
